B&W CM2 matrix tower subwoofer and monitors
Dark grey colour Unique plastic CM1 stand and fittings for CM2 column back-firing twin subwoofers Very flat frequency response : 48 - 20kHz lower bass point : -6dB at 36Hz input power : 50 to 200 Watts with APOC protection circuit
The CM1 / CM2 monitor loudspeaker system developed by the B&W engineers using their patented computer-based Matrix speaker design technique, that is unique to this fine British Loudspeaker manufacturer. What is extraordinary about this particular speaker system is its uncanny ability to reproduce a full sound stage of music from a relative small speaker columns. The small CM1 unit can also be matched with any other subwoofer for full-range sound reproduction, was due to famed B&W engineer, Kenneth Grange, who sought to develop a small elegant enclosure system that produced a large, accurate musical experience.
Much that one finds in today's B&W models such as the Matrix cabinet system [ for removing unwanted and sound distorting back waves from the enclosure ] and the Kevlar woven speaker cones is present in this earlier expression of their engineering genius. The system is made up of two distinct but perfectly synchronized units: (1) The CM1 monitor is comprised of a Nautilus tube-loaded 1" aluminum dome tweeter combined with a 5" Kevlar fiber cone bass / midrange driver that produces an amazing 55 Hz to 33 kHz ±3dB frequency range, with (2) addition of the CM2 subwoofer this extends down to 48Hz at -1.5dB and 36Hz at -6dB.
Hence, most of the key musical information is covered by this highly accurate monitor, from the lowest frequency, detailed and airy plucked string bass notes to the highest frequency percussion instruments and cymbals. The midrange is smooth and musical, while still providing the greatest detail and stable imaging.
The CM2 back-firing bass drivers have a peak excursion of up to 20mm, and have super large magnets that are bigger than the effective cone area of the driver in size. This permits the extended low frequency response from such a sleek elegant column design
Power rating is 50 to 200W RMS, yet in cases of excessive amplification the system is also safely protected with the B&W APOC protection circuit
